Watamu

A quieter coast: marine national park, tidal creeks and one of the best-protected reefs in East Africa.

About Watamu

Watamu is smaller and considerably quieter than Diani, built around a marine national park established in 1968 — one of the oldest in Africa.

Three bays are separated by rocky headlands, with coral gardens close enough to swim to. Mida Creek behind the village is a tidal mangrove system that fills with waders, and the Arabuko-Sokoke forest inland is the largest remaining coastal forest in East Africa, holding several endemic birds.

It suits travellers who want the ocean without much of a scene.
